Raymond B. Higgins, 67, died on Tuesday morning, December 2, at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse after a brief illness.
He was born on May 20, 1913 to Dennis and Agnes Higgins. He worked in the post office in New Albin for six and one half years before entering the U.S. Army, serving from 1942 until 1946. He spent twenty-eight months in the Southwest Pacific.
Prior to his retirement in 1968, he worked on the Illinois Central Railroad as a postal clerk.
He is survived by a brother, Wilfred L. Higgins, of Rice, Minnesota; two sisters, Pearl G. Stevens of Palm Beach, Fla. and Angela A. Davin of Fitchburg, Mass.; two nieces and three nephews.
The funeral mass was held on Friday, December 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, New Albin. The Rev. Linus Rasing officiated and burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing. Military rites were conducted by the Kenneth Casey V.F.W. post no. 5603 of New Albin. Pallbearers were Bernard Dougherty, Barry Fruechte, LaVerne Welper, Robert Dresselhaus, Tom Richards and Edgar Wuennecke.
The Potter-Haugen Funeral Home of Caledonia was in charge of arrangements.
