Mrs. Sarah Burge Jemison was born in Green Co., PA, 6 Mar. 1825, and died in Postville, Iowa, 5 Aug. 1900, aged 75 years, 4 months and 29 days.

She was united in marriage with David Jemison, 15 Sept. 1842, in her native state. To this union were born 11 children, 6 of whom, with the husband and father preceded her in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Jemison emigrated from PA. to Allamakee Co., Iowa, in an early day; a family bible entry indicating "Journey ended 15 Mar. 1850." Here most of their family were born and raised, and here they experienced their full share of trial and hardship. Mr. Jemison "Fell on sleep" on Christmas Day, 1879.

Mother Jemison, from an early age, was a member of the United Brethren church. In Nov. 1896 she transferred to the Methodist church of Postville. Feeding faithfully on the word of God and ever drinking deeper of His love, her's was a home where the weary itineret could find a welcome and the kindest hospitality. A good neighbor, faithful wife, loving mother and devoted christian, she was ripe for Heaven when the summons came. "Servant of God, well done ! The battle fought, the victory won, enter thou into rest."

Five children: John Jemison, of Indianola, IA; David Jemison, of Mt Vernon, IA; Mrs. Rosier, of Chetopa, KS; Mrs. W. H. Dunning and Mrs. J. M. Harris of this city, survive to mourn her loss.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday and she was laid to rest beside her husband to await the resurrection of the just.
