Postville Review, Sat. 16 Nov. 1878.

Another Fatal Accident Charged To The Account Of Whiskey.

Last Monday an old man by the name A. H. Beals, residing a few miles southeast of Waukon, came to Postville with his two sons to deliver a quantity of hogs. During the afternoon the two elder Beals drank heavily, starting for home as night came on very drunk. The younger of the two fell off his wagon before they got out of town, and was provided with lodgings in the calaboose. The younger son took charge the team and he and his father, with the other team, went on. When just beyond Mr. Orr's the old man fell off his wagon and the team ran away, running into the other wagon and throwing out the son, who received little injury. When Mr. Orr got to the old gentleman he was dead. There was no outward indications of death being occasioned by the fall, but it was either an internal shock or else he was dead when he fell. The one that was in the lock up was also senseless, and it is thought that he would have died also if he had not been roused up. The next morning even he had scarcely come to his senses.

Altogether it is a sad case, and one of the most powerful temperance lectures that could be delivered or written.
