Oelwein Register, Oelwein, Iowa, Wed., 27 April 1910. (condensed).

MRS. BARCLAY, PIONEER, ANSWERS LAST CALL, Said To Of Been The Oldest Resident Iowa Woman Born In The Hawkeye State.

Drusilla virginia Ivers was born Oct. 30, 1835 at Burlington, IA, and died at Oelwein, Ia, in April 21, 1910 at the age of 74 years 5 months and 21 days.

She moved with her parents from Burlington to Galena, Ill., where they resided for a short time. From there they moved to Clayton county, Iowa, near Postville where her father took up a claim, she residing with them until 1854, when on Dec. 24, she was united in marriage to Thomas C. Barclay, of that place.

She and Mr. Barclay began housekeeping on a farm in Clayton county the same year, and were among the first settlers. In the fall of 1876 they moved on a farm southwest of West Union where they lived for several years. Becoming tired of farm life they came to Oelwein about ten years ago to make their home.

She was the mother of 9 children, 5 of them dying in childhood, one daughter, Mrs. Dr. Cole, of this city, passed away in the year 1902.

Only three surviving children are left, Frank S., of Nora Springs; Simon W., of West Union; and Mrs. G. L. Skeels, of this city.

Deceased has been in poor health for the past two years, but never has been bedfast until about ten days ago when she was stricken with a stroke of paralysis which caused her to take to her bed at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Skeels. She has always been a good faithful devoted mother, a kind neighbor, a good christian, always ready to help in time of need.

Funeral services were held at the residence of G. L. Skeels in this city. The remains were then taken to Postville, Iowa, and buried beside those of the husband, who died on March 30th, a little more than three weeks preceeding her death. Relatives from West Union and Nora Springs were present and accompanied the remains to its final resting place.
