Jacob W. Rouster of Grace Lake, Michigan passed away at the Chelsea, Michigan Medicenter at the age of 72 years. He is survived by his wife Lucille, two daughters, Naomi Knisley of Fraser, and Marion Olmsted of Ann Arbor, seven sons, Leroy of Ypsilanti, William of Kalamazoo, Burnell of Toledo, Ohio, Wayne of Belleville, Ellery, Norman and John of Grass Lake, 28 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters, Elizabeth Lamb of La Crosse, Wis., and Mary Thomson, three brothers, Pete, Nick and John, all of New Albin.
Funeral services were at St. Mary’s Church, Chelsea on Saturday, Dec. 12. Interment was in Mt. Olive Cemetery. He was a 54 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He was born in Iowa Township and received his education in the rural school and the New Albin high school. He worked at farming several years, and was on the dredging crew that straightened the Upper Iowa River No. 1 Drainage District. He also worked at the New Albin Creamery under Emmet Rice and upon Rice’s retirement, he was buttermaker for several years.
Mr. Rouster moved to Michigan in the late twenties and worked for the Henry Ford Company in clearing land and building the Willow Run Airport and plant there. He continued to work for the Kaiser Co. when they took over from Ford and when the General Motors Corp. took over from Kaiser he went with them until his retirement a few years ago. He was employed by the plant’s power and heating department. Since his retirement he had been helping his two sons, Ellery and John, on their large Holstein dairy farm near Chelsea, Michigan.
