Henry Schroeder, 79, of near Hardin passed away on Saturday. He is survived by the widow and five children, Arthur and Edward and Minna at home, Mrs. Ernest Bigler of Decorah and Mrs. Wm. Topel at Monona.

Heinrich John Schroeder was born May 22, 1837, in Konow, Mecklenberg-Schwerein, Germany. In 1871 at the age of 34 he came to America and his first stopping place was Garnavillo, Iowa.

On Oct. 8, 1872, he was united in marriage to Miss Maria Johnke. To this union nine children were born, five of whom are living - Mrs. Ernest Bigler, of Decorah; Mrs. William Topel, Monona; Miss Minnie, Arthur and Edward who live at home.

From 1874 to 1895 they lived on a farm near Luana. In 1895 he bought a farm near Hardin which he has since made his home.

He died at his home last Saturday of blood poisoning. Funeral was held Monday from St Paul's German Lutheran church in Postville.

Notes: The maiden name of his wife Mary is spelled in various records as Jahnke, Jahncke or Johnke
