Postville Review, Sat., 10 May 1890.

WAUKON ITEMS -

After a short illness Miss Allie Wright died Wednesday, April 30th, at the home of her mother, from the effects of an awful surgical operation. As the authorities had been notified that she did not come to her death by natural means, a coroner's jury was empaneled to investigate the case. Drs. Crawford and Strock held a post mortem examination and found unmistakable evidences of the above mentioned operation. After a thorough investigation the coroner's jury found that she came to her death by unlawful means and implicated Dr. Christensen as principal and Mrs. S. W. Wright and E. A. Wyman as accessories. The Dr. was arrested Thursday afternoon while making a professional call in the county. He was put in jail Thursday night and remained untill Friday night, when he was released on $3,000. bail. His preliminary examination is set for Thursday of this week, but we understand that it is his intention to waive his right and be bound over for the grand jury. Some time after the funeral, which occurred Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Wright engaged a team to take her to Postville. After supper she complained of having a headache and told one of her neighbors that she believed she would take a walk and visit some of her friends. She then walked out in the country a ways and waited untill her team came along and picked her up and took her to Postville. About an hour after she left the officers "got wind" of it and immediately got the neccessary papers and started pursuit. Sheriff Minert, to make the arrest sure, telephoned the marshal to arrest and hold her, which he did, just in time to keep her from taking a freight train west. She was brought back and lodged in jail the same night and will probably remain there untill the grand jury convenes. E. A. Wyman, the man in this case, has been a conductor, running a passenger train from McGregor to Sanborn. He went east Thursday morning and has not been heard from since.

Note: I could not find any further information. I hope someone in Waukon, Iowa, can access the courthouse records and search their old filmed newspapers and find the rest of the story of this sad event. Miss Allie Wright deserves both justice and a fitting obituary.

Submitter is not related.

Dr. D. J. Christenson of Waukon is under arrest for producing an abortion on Allie Wright, a young lady. She died and the mother was also arrested. The doctor denies his guilt and says the trouble was all done before he was called.

Famous Murder Case Dismissed
MASON CITY, NOV. 26.-- The famous case of Mrs. S. M. Wright, charged with the murder of her daughter at Waukon last July, came to sudden termination yesterday by the prosecution filing papers of dismissal, claiming they had insufficient evidence to convict. There still remains an indictment against Wymans, the alleged seducer of the girl, but he can nowhere be found.
