Postville Review, Wed., 22 Apr. 1874.

SUDDEN DEATH-- The wife of Mr. A. A. Allen died very suddenly last Sabbath afternoon. Mrs. Allen had complained but a few days, had not even been confined to her bed, we understand. She took dinner the day she died, with her family, a while after dinner she lay down to rest, and fell asleep, after sleeping as Mr. Allen supposed as long as she ought to, he went into her room to wake her and found her dead. This is indeed a very sad and sudden blow to Mr. Allen and his family, who have the heart felt sympathy of the entire community in their affliction.

Added by Connie Ellis 6/19/2017:

Mrs. Anson A. Allen was Elsina Ellis, daughter of Jonathan Ellis and his first wife, Lucettia Hawkins. The dates which are shown from the Woodmansee Cemetery records are correct. After Elsina’s death, Anson and his children, daughters Emma who was about 16 years old when her mother died, Carrie was 4 years old, and a 14 year old son, Ralph M. Allen, moved to Hampton, Iowa in Franklin County. Anson was still living in that county in 1905. There was another son named Edgar J. Allen who does not appear with Anson Allen in the 1880 Federal Census but I did find his marriage record when he married Lida Vokes in 1892 in Hampton, Iowa.
