Mabel Burrow

Mabel Engeline Burrow, daughter of Emil Alfred and Karine (Simenson) Larson, was born December 4, 1902 near Clermont, Iowa. She died Sunday, March 17, 1996 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. She was 93 years old.

She was baptized December 21, 1902 by Pastor Jacob Taner at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. On May 27, 1917 she was confirmed in the first class at the new West Clermont Lutheran Church by Pastor C. H. Hjortholm. She received her education in the country school near her home and later attended school in Clermont.

On March 10, 1921 she was united in marriage to John William Burrow at the Lutheran Parsonage by Pastor C. H. Hjortholm. To this union one daughter, Marcella, was born. They farmed in the Clermont vicinity until 1926 when they moved near Postville to farm for 11 years. They moved to Postville where John worked 14 years for the REC before retiring.

Mabel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the WELCA, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, a 75 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer at Makee Manor of Waukon for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; her parents; 3 brothers, Lloyd, Ernest and Millard, and one sister, Signa Friedrichs.

She is survived by her daughter, Marcella (Rex) King of Cape Coral, Fla.; 3 grandsons, Daniel (LaDonna) Schultz of White Bear Lake, Minn., Michael King of Golden, Colo., and Mark King of Waterloo; a great granddaughter, Deanne Schultz and a sister Ethel Loftsgard of Des Moines, Iowa.
