Services Here Tuesday For Auto-Train Accident Victims

Services were conducted Tuesday, August 25, at 11 a.m. from the Community Presbyterian Church for Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ball who were killed in an auto-train crash Saturday morning, August 22, 1970 at a railroad crossing on highway 187, 8½ miles south of Lamont. The Rev. Dick Harberts officiated.

Bernice Eudora Wallis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curt Wallis, was born October 23, 1918, in Western Grove, Arkansas. She was educated in the Western Grove schools, graduating from high school in 1935. She attended nurses' training in the Springfield Baptist Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, graduating in 1940. She worked in hospitals in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Carthage, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to Leo R. Ball on December 24, 1941 at Cassville, Missouri. Mrs. Ball was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and had served as school nurse since January 1966.

Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her father Curt Wallis in 1934. She is survived by 2 children, Joseph of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin and Mary of Iowa City; her mother, Mrs. John Byrket and step-father John Byrket of Carthage, Missouri; and 2 grandchildren James and Jared Ball.

Burial was in the Postville Cemetery beside her husband.
