A. M. Candee, one of the oldest residents of Postville, passed away early Thursday morning. If he had lived until June 26, he would have been 81 years old.

He had been in failing health for several months but seemed to be recently better, Saturday he went down town and visited with old friends. Sunday evening he was taken suddenly ill and failed to recover.

Funeral services were held Saturday in the Community Presbyterian church. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

Asa M. Candee was born June 26, 1859, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ara Candee, pioneer farmers in this county. When he was 14 he moved with his parents to a farm east of Postville, just across the county line in Clayton county.

On Sept. 7, 1887, he was married to Miss Eva Hinman and to their union five children were born, all of whom survive their father: Roy and Lee of Volga City; Clifton of Bound Brook, NJ; Lance of Anamosa, and Floy (Mrs. Fred Jahnke) of Postville.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Roger, and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Van Gorder and Florence Candee.

Candee of Bound Brook, NJ; Lynn Hinman and family of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hinman of Chicago, IL; George Hinman, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hinman, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hinman, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pearson, and Mr. and Mrs. Mert Smith, all of Luana; Mrs. John Belfy and son, Murray Mann of Moline, IL; Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Clark of West Union; George Leete, Will Leete, Mr. and Mrs. Don Leete, Ray Leete, Velma Leete, all of Volga City; Mr. and Mrs. Hilas Burnham of Waukon; Gene Siddel, and Mrs. Salsburg of Wells, MN; Mr. and Mrs Holway of Alden, MN; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Garms, Mrs. Willis Evans and daughter, of Monona; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Nelson and Lew Rounds of Clermont.
