Matt Sebastian was born in Rhine province, Germany, March 17, 1849, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. At the age of sixteen years he came with his parents to America and to the vicinity of Postville, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was the Eldest of three children, the others, Fred and Frank , having preceded him in death.

Mr. Sebastian never married. He made his home with his mother and father while they lived. During the past eighteen years he has lived with his brother and wife, Mr. and Mr. Frank Sebastian, of this city. Since the death of Frank, two years ago, Mrs. Sebastian has continued to care for him, and especially during the weeks of his final sickness she has administered to him faithfully.

He passed away at her home, on Thursday, November 17, 1932, at the age of 83 years, and eight months.

The funeral was held from the home at two o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Rev. R. F. Galloway of the Community Presbyterian church officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
