Postville Review, Sat., 29 Oct. 1881. From the Waukon Democrat.

Mysterious Death.

A young lady named Mary Shephard who has been a resident of Waukon and vicinity, came to her death in a singular and somewhat mysterious way recently while on her way to Colorado Springs, or rather just after her arrival there. The young lady left Waukon about three weeks ago, having had a previous arrangement with her brother-in-law, who lives in Colorado Springs, to meet her at the railroad station, about forty miles from his home, and convey her thither. He arrived at the station at the appointed time and inquired at the hotel for Miss Shepard. He was shown to her room but found it locked and could not get a response to his rappings or callings. Finally the door was forced in and the lady was found sick and speechless. He took her to his home, but she survived only a short time after reaching there. It is said that she revived sufficiently to tell something of the cause of her illness, but what was told we have not learned. There are several rumors afloat relative to the matter but not much seems to be deffinately known.--Waukon Democrat.
