Mylan O. Taylor was born at Perkinsville, Vermont, March 24, 1849. He moved to Iowa in 1871 and came to Postville in the spring of 1872 to build the M. E. church, he being contractor's foreman, concerning which work the church records has the following to say:

"Feb. 15, 1873. By unanimous vote of Board of Trustees this church building was accepted of the contractor and builder, and a vote of thanks from the entire board was tendered to him, also to Bro. M. O. Taylor, the foreman of the work, for their intrest manifested and the thoroughness with which it was executed by them."

He was married to Elvira C. Sanders at Postville on June 10, 1894. To them were born three children, Herbert E., who now lives at Waukon; Harriet M. Gibson, now living in Milwaukee, Wis., and Ora J., who died at Fairbury, Neb., at the age of eight years. Mr. Taylor moved from Postville to Chicago...(remainder of sentence unreadable).

He was visiting at the home of H. S. Luhman in this city at the time of his death which came suddenly on Monday morning, Nov. 22. He united with the M. E. church at Ludlow, Neb., when a young man. His sister, Ella Taylor, who spent most of her life as a missionary in India, is now in California.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Nov. 24th, from the Postville Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. P. M. Phillips, assisted by Rev. Childress, and at the grave by Rev. E. Schmidt. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
