Postville Review, Fri., 16 April 1920.
Elizabeth Meyer, nee Moetsch, was born July 30th, 1847, at Weissenstadt, Bavaria, Germany. At the age of 21, in 1868, she came with other relatives to America and lived at the farm of Conrad Thoma in Grand Meadow twp.
In the year 1869, on the 26th of December, she was united in marriage to Jacob Meyer. To this union nine children were born, eight of which preceded her to her eternal rest in early youth. She lived with her husband here in Postville until five years ago they moved to her daughter's home, Mrs. William Brockmeier, on the farm. Her life was for nine years a life of affliction. A week ago today she fell and broke her hip which caused her final end.
The deceased was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and one of the first members of the congregation and also a member of the ladies aid. In the building of the present church she was very active, in company with Mrs. J. Gass and Mrs. John Thoma in securing money for the drapery of the Alter and pulpit and the lights for the new church. Her work she has done well and will always be a blessed rememberance.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Brockmeyer, and one grandchild.
She leaves also one brother, John Moetsch of Postville and other relatives and friends. She also leaves two brothers and one sister in Germany.
Her age was 72 years, 8 months and 9 days.
"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, yea, saith the spirit; that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."
