Services Held For Former Resident

Services for Mrs. Kate E. Benson were held Wednesday, September 2 at the LaMoille Community Church, LaMoille. She died Monday, August 31 at Community Hospital West, Marshalltown.

She was born Feb. 11, 1891 in Postville, a daughter of Charles and Anne (Dodge) Kerr. She was reared in this area and later graduated from Iowa State College at Ames. She was a teacher for a number of years at Postville, Oelwein, LaMoille and also at Lincoln Normal School at Marion, Alabama, where she was made secretary-treasurer of the school.

In July 1933, she was married to Herbert E. Benson and she resided on a farm near LaMoille until his death in March, 1960.

Mrs. Benson continued active in the LaMoille Church and its organizations, the LaMoille Woman's Club and Amvets Auxiliary after moving to Marshalltown. She held offices in the Marshalltown Woman's Club and had been an active member of Spinning Wheel Chapter, DAR, Senior Citizens, Current Events Club, the Covenant Daughters of First Congregational Church, and Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Representatives of these organizations attended the services.

Surviving are 5 children, Mrs. Bill Baltisberger of Marshalltown, Elmer Benson of Gilman, Charles and James Benson of State Center and Mrs. Stephen (Betty) Molle of Jefferson. There are 19 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and a sister.
