Postville Review, Fri., 5 June 1914.
Louisa Hedemann was born in the state of Illinois Feb. 29, 1852, and with her parents came to Garnavillo, Iowa, where she was baptized, educated and confirmed. Sept. 8, 1871, she was married to Carl William Meier, and to this union was born six children -- Mrs. Louisa Eaton of Spencer, Iowa; Christian F. Meier of Ismay, Mont.; Mrs. Amanda Phillips, George J. Meier, and Miss Irene Meier of Postville; one son, William, having died in 1893 at the age of 12 years.
They lived in Clayton county until 1883, when they came to Postville, and with the exception of a few years spent in Farmersburg have resided here continuously since. Some months ago she was stricken with her fatal illness and despite all that skill and tender care could do to bring her back to health again, she gradually failed, and during the evening hours of Wednesday, May 29, 1914, her wearied spirit took its flight, and a splendid christian woman, devoted wife, fond mother and true friend entered into eternal rest, aged 62 years, 2 months and 28 days.
The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city at two o'clock Sunday afternoon May 31st, Rev. Franke of Elkader officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
The floral offerings were profuse and extremely beautiful.
In this connection the family wish to thank the neighbors and friends for their kindly deeds and comforting words so generously bestowed during the illness and burial of their beloved wife and mother.
