Postville Herald, Fri., 18 Oct. 1918.
Postville people were pained to learn the first of the week of the death of the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. P. M. Phillips of Colesburg, former residents here. The following brief sketch of deceased was in Wednesday morning's Telegraph Herald:
Miss Mary Alva Phillips, elder daughter of Rev. and Mrs. P. M. Phillips, passed away Saturday, October 12th, at the age of 23 years. Her death occurred at Chapin, where she had been teaching when taken ill with brain fever and other complications. Her illness assumed a critical stage about two weeks ago, when her mother was summoned to Chapin. Miss Phillips was a bright and amiable young person and her death brings sorrow to many hearts. Besides her parents she is survived by four brothers and only one sister.
One brother, David Phillips, is in the Army and is stationed at Camp McClellan, Allabama, and another, Franklin, is a member of the S.A.T.C. at Fayette.
