Postville Review, 04 Aug. 1899.
The remains of Chas. Wattles were brought in on the 4:45 train from New Hampton on Wednesday, and were taken to Geo. McWilliams', where they remained until the funeral, which occured at the Methodist church at 2:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon, Rev. B. C. Barnes, of Luana, officiating. Geo. McWilliams and Warren Robbe went out and accompanied the body here. An inquest was held but we have not the verdict. We suppose it was an accidental death. In the fall his skull was fractured and other injuries to his person were inflicted. It is a sudden and great bereavement to the family.
