Postville Herald, Thur., 17 Dec. 1936.

Postville Pioneer Passes On In West.

Funeral services were held at the Schutte funeral parlor in this city last Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. F. Galloway, for Mrs. M. L. Alward, one of the pioneers of the Postville community, who passed away at her home in Long Beach, California, December 8, 1936, at the advanced age of 95 years, four months and 20 days.

As Margaret Louisa Courson she came from Pennsylvania to Clayton county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Courson, in 1854. Her married life was spent on the farm in Grand Meadow which is now occupied by Lawrence Reinhardt. Later she resided in Postville until about twenty years ago, when she went to live in Long Beach, California.

Mrs. Alward was a devoted member of the Methodist church and an active worker in the W. C. T. U. She was well and favorably known in this locality in the years agone and was a fine type of christian womanhood.

She is survived by one brother, E. T. Courson, of Long Beach, California; and three daughters, Mrs. Emma Abel of Tacoma, Washington; Mrs. John Ward of Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Ella Hardwick of Long Beach, California. Also by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, among whom is Mrs. Gilbert Sanders, and family of Postville.

Interment was made in the Postville cemetery.

Wilmer Stowe and son, Douglass, of Fort Dodge, and Robert Courson of Belmond, Iowa, were here to attend the services.
