Mary Ludeking 1925-2003

Mary L. Ludeking, age 77, of Waukon, died Friday, July 4, 2003, following injuries received in an auto accident near Bagley, Wis. Funeral services were held Friday, July 11 at Waterville Lutheran Church in Waterville with Pastor Laura Gentry officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements. Mary Louise Johnson was born October 12, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph M. and Vera Fern (Hessel) Johnson. Her family moved to Waterville when she was three. Mary was baptized in Dubuque and confirmed at Waterville Lutheran Church. She graduated from Waterville High School and then attended Bayless Business College in Dubuque. After working a short time in Dubuque, she returned to Waterville, where she married Robert Francis Weipert on March 4, 1945, at the Lutheran Church. Robert died in 1975. On February 27, 1976, she married Cletus J. Kelly at St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry. Cletus died in 1985. On June 23, 1989, she married Jesslie Dean Ludeking at the Waterville Lutheran Church. Jesslie died in 1996. Mary spent her life as a homemaker. She was an active member of the Waterville Lutheran Church where she held various offices and participated in Ladies Circle. Mary was also a member of VFW Auxiliary Post #4117 in Waukon and was currently serving as its Chaplain. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing card, and loved to dance. She also enjoyed spending time and visiting with her wide variety of friends and extended family. Survivors include two sons, Charles (Barbara) Weipert of Waterville and Curtis (Linda) Weipert of Holmen, Wis.; a daughter, Peggy (Michael) Broadhead of Waukon; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty White of Waukon; twelve step-children; and many step grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Johnson and V. Fern Busness; a daughter, Karen Weipert; an infant granddaughter; and two brothers, John F. and Donald Johnson. Casketbearers were Robert and Joseph Weipert, Randy Kozelka, Jamie Allison, Clark White, and Carl Christianson.
