Delaney M. Bloxham

Delaney M. Bloxham was born Jan. 29, 1901 in Wabasha, Minn. to parents Frederick William and Jessie May Ruckhaber. She died Jan. 2, 1994.

She grew up near Wabasha, Minn. and attended the schools there. On Nov. 14, 1917, she married Clarence Oscar Bloxham at Grace Rectory in Wabasha.

She spent much of her life as a farm wife and homemaker on their farm near Postville, Iowa. She also worked as a cook at the S & D Cafe and the Good Samaritan Center, both in Waukon, Iowa. She helped people with home health care, and she also tended to elderly people in her home. She was an avid crocheter, and made many things. She also liked to raise flowers, and cook for company.

She was active in various groups at both Forest Mills Methodist Church and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was involved with the VFW Auxiliary, was a Gold Star Mother, and a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence (12/16/1969); her son Charles (killed in World War II); granddaughter Gail Bloxham; sisters May Thornton, Margaret Stanfield and Hazel Decker, and infants Emma and Etta; and brothers Thomas and Robert Ruckhaber, and infant Abbott.

Survivors include daughters Mrs. Eugene (Betty) May of Monmouth, Ore. and Mrs. George (Lorna) Miller of Ely, Iowa; sons James (Norma) Bloxham, Keith (Ruth) Bloxham and Richard (Edith) Bloxham, all of Waukon; and Ronald (Marilyn) Bloxham of Cedar Rapids; sisters Mrs. Oscar (Nellie) Egeberg of Brookings, S.D. and Rosetta Wickham of Delmar, Iowa; brothers Charles "Bill" (Winnifred) Ruckhaber of Texas, Albert "Ole" (Vivian) Ruckhaber and James (Sandy) Ruckhaber, all of Luana, Iowa; 24 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 1994 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Verdon Swenson officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Rick, Brad, Bud, Randy and Chuck Bloxham and Terry Miller. Honorary casket bearers were all Delaney's other grandchildren. Arrangements were by Martin Funeral Home, Waukon.
