Postville Herald, Thur., Jan. 3, 1935.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Mrs. L. A. Bellows Passes Thursday. Had Resided In Community Since Girlhood.

Mary Eliza Taylor was born at East Venice, New York, on the 18th day of October, 1856, and passed from this earth to her reward in heaven from her home in Postville on the 27th day of December, 1934, aged 78 years, two months and nine days.

In the fall of 1871 she with her parents and family moved from New York to Allamakee county, Iowa, locating on a farm near Hardin, Iowa. In this same home on the 20th of November, 1873, she was united in marriage to L. A. Bellows, and to this union was born seven children, all of whom are now living, namely: William F. Bellows of Jamestown, North Dakota; George A. Bellows of Pettibone, North Dakota; Justin H. Bellows, Postville; Austin E. Bellows, Bayfield, Wisconsin; Frank L. Bellows, Dubuque; Lee T. Bellows, of Churches Ferry, North Dakota; and Mae E. Kascht of Waterloo.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, seven children, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, L. M. Taylor of Bucklin, Kansas, and one sister, Mrs. E. E. Burdick of Minneapolis.

With the exception of 18 months she has lived all her married life in and near Postville and for the past 25 years has been a resident of this city.

In the early years of her married life she became a member of the Methodist church, and in later years became a charter member of the Community church of Postville and a member of its Ladies' Aid Society.

She was a member of the Eastern Star lodge and of the Cozy Club, in each of which she was actively engaged and interested so long as her declining health permitted.

She was a true wife and mother in all that those terms imply, and her greatest concern was ever for her home and her children, sharing with them in their joys and sorrows.

The funeral was held from the Postville Community church last Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Dr. R. F. Galloway, and the large number of sympathizing friends in attendance and the numerous beautiful floral offerings all gave testimony to the large place this good woman held in the community that had been her home for so many years. Interment was made in the Postville cemetery.

The members of Postville Chapter No. 238, Order of the Eastern Star, attended in a body.

All the children save one, William, who could not be reached, were in attendance at the funeral.
