Mrs. Fred Miene, Mary Caroline Dorothy Reinhardt, was born May 29, 1874 near Garnavillo, the daughter of Dietrich Reinhardt and his wife, Caroline Schlueter Reinhardt. She was baptized in the Lutheran church at Garnavillo in the same year and was confirmed in a Lutheran church near National on November 11, 1888. She was received as a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville in 1908.

On February 6, 1897, she was united in marriage to Fred Miene. To this union were born five children, Alma, Otto, Lucy, Frederick and Florence.

She is survived by her five children, Alma, Mrs. Will Kuehling, Longmont, Colorado; Otto of Postville; Lucy, Mrs. Walter Winter, of West Union; Fred of Monona; and Florence, Mrs. Walter Everman, of Castalia; 13 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in June 1943, two sisters, Helen, Mrs. Henry Bugenhagen, of Cresco and Louise, Mrs. Carl Weller, of McGregor, two brothers, Harry Reinhardt and Frank Reinhardt of Postville.

Mr. and Mrs. Miene lived their entire lives in this area, retiring from farming in 1931, when they moved to Postville to make their home. She passed away at a nursing home in Decorah on February 27, 1959, at the age of 84 years, eight months and 29 days.

She was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church all her life, and an honor roll member of the United Lutheran Church Women.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville on Monday March 3, at 2:00, with the Rev. Charles E Witt, officiating. Burial was at the Postville cemetery.
