Andrew Stockman was born in Unterlienach, Bavaria, Germany, December 28, 1841, and died at his home in Postville, Iowa, at 12 o'clock, noon, on Saturday, January 9, 1909, aged 68 years and 12 days, death resulting from physical weaknesses following a paralytic stroke suffered more than a year ago.

Coming to America in an early day he first settled in cincinnatti, Ohio, where on Nov. 22, 1864, he was married to Emma Kasheimer. To this union were born seven children, 6 boys and a girl, of which three boys are dead.

Mr. Stockman located in Postville about 35 years ago and has resided here continuously ever since, working with diligence and skill at his trade of cobbler. He was known to all as an honest and upright citizen, a good neighbor and steadfast friend, and those he admitted to close friendship knew best the real manliness of the man. The storms of life he met with courage and steered his bark through the breakers and into calmer seas. He was a generous and kind hearted and a good provider for his home.

In 1895 he was married again to Mrs. Amanda Downs, who survives him and who has most devotedly ministered to his every need and comfort during the protracted period of his affliction.

The sympathy of all is with the wife and children who mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father.

The funeral was held from the Lutheran church Monday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Kuehne. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
