Clarence Brainard

Funeral services for Clarence M. Brainard were held Saturday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. Rev. James Elvig officiated. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery, rural Luana.

Clarence Monroe Brainard, son of Amos and Cora (Ewing) Brainard, was born August 9, 1912 in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He died May 30, 1985 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

He attended the local rural schools. May 31, 1940 he was married to Norma Jean Sieg. They farmed in Allamakee County all of their life and have lived on their present farm for 22 years. They were the parents of 6 children.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Charles and a granddaughter, Sarah.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Jean; 5 sons, Clarence (Katie) Brainard, Jr., Marvin (Pat) Brainard, Jerry (Luann) Brainard, all of Monona, Gary (Colleen) Brainard of Luana, and Roger (Ruth) Brainard of Denver, Colorado; a daughter, Joyce (Gerald) Limkemann of Coggon; 21 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Forest of Postville, Adelbert and Milo, both of Luana; 3 sisters, Alice and Irene Brainard and Beulah (Vince) Bowers all of Luana.

Casket bearers were Art Dickson, Donald Baade, Wesley Winters, Merle Miller, Eugene Mielke and Raymond Winters.
