Final Rites For Carl Brainard

Funeral services for Carl Brainard, Elgin, were held Saturday, Nov. 19, 1983 at 11 a.m. at the Elgin Lutheran Church. The Rev. Duane Berg officiated. Muehlethaler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He was buried in the Elgin Cemetery.

Carl Frederick Brainard, the son of Reuben and Minnie (Schroeder) Brainard, was born Sept. 12, 1916 in Waukon. He died Nov. 16, 1983 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Carl was baptized at the Methodist Church, Waukon, June 27, 1926. He was confirmed Dec. 19, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. He was a member of the Elgin Lutheran Church at the time of his death.

He was married to Delpha Moore and to this union seven children were born. He was later married to Lucille (Bartels) Moore at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Volga, Aug. 16, 1960.

Carl was educated in the Waukon School District, spending his boyhood years near Ludlow. After his marriage he farmed for a while near Postville. He was later employed by Carnation, at Castalia, and Hygrade, at Postville. He retired from Hygrade in 1979 in ill health.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Mabel; 4 brothers, Elmer, Lester, Leo and Lloyd; and 2 children, Lawrence and Carlene.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille; a brother, James, Roseville, CA; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Knapp, Sabula; 5 children, Callie (Mrs. Kenneth Marek) of Torrance, CA; Dixie Koopman of Bloomington, MN; Robert of Pensacola, FL; Charles of Postville, and Kent of Wood Dale, IL; and 10 grandchildren.
