George Wagner Lived Here For Several Years.

George Wagner, 85, whose passing on at his home in Monona May 1 we briefly mentioned last week, was a former resident of the Postville community. Born in Germany, he came to Postville in 1884 and for a number of years worked on the Williams farm south of Postville.

He was married to Caroline Nision March 31, 1887, and for ten years the couple lived here on the farm before going to a place south of Monona. Mrs. Wagner passed away in 1934, after which Mr. Wagner and his daughter, Katherine, moved to Monona where he has since lived.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Monroe (Louise) Henkes of Farmersburg, Katherine at home, and Mrs. Ed (Sophia) Montour, both of Monona, Mrs. William (Johannah) Johanningmeier of McGregor, and Mrs. Edward (Mary) Huckstadt of Elkader; two sons, George of Monona and Louis of Luana; a brother and sister living in Germany; 26 grandchildren, four grandsons of which served in the armed forces during World War II, and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Mrs. Virgil Scheffert, Oct. 5, 1946, and a son-in-law, Monroe Henkes, July 18, 1938.
