Lawrence Moody Bollman

Lawrence Moody Bollman, son of Charles C. and Etta (Deal) Bollman, was born on Sept. 2, 1901 near Frankville in Allamakee County. He grew up in South Dakota and near Frankville, Ion, Volney and Waukon Junction.

On Sept. 2, 1930, he married Helen Marie Krambeer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in Linton Township in Allamakee County, and they had 10 children. In 1954 they moved to their home in Monona. He had built 3 homes. Lawrence worked as a lumberman, and he owned a sawmill, dug ginseng roots, hauled milk, sold Rawleigh products and made jewelry out of rocks they hunted while spending the winters in the south.

He died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1992 at the Prairie Health Center in Prairie du Chien, Wisk. He was 90.

Preceding him in death were his wife Helen, who died Sept. 18, 1989; his parents; 2 sisters, Violet Meyer and DeLila Schlitter; and one brother, Ferris Bollman.

Survivors include his 4 sons, Raymond of Swisher, LeRoy of Waukon, Robert of Osage, and Frederick of Harpers Ferry; 6 daughters, Marie Farmer of Postville, Jane Kregel of Luana; Loretta Bollman of Robbinsdale, Minn., Lillian Kidman of Jackson, Mich., Karen Holvenstot of New Hope, Minn., and JoAnn Bollman of Arlington, Texas; 27 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; one brother, Beacher Bollman of Harpers Ferry; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 4, 1992 at 11 a.m. at the Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, the Rev. Gary Dobbins officiating. Organist was Ric Benzing and soloist was Carole Gerdes.

Active pallbearers were his grandson. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
