Was Born In This County And Lived Here Most Of His Lifetime.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

John Lewis Bray, well-known Post township farmer, passed away Friday afternoon, November 9, at four o'clock following an illness which began August 7, when he suffered a light stroke. The family members were at his bedside when the end of his busy lifetime arrived.

Mr. Bray was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bray and was born in Linton Township, Allamakee county, on October 7, 1866, arriving at the age of 68 years, one month and two days.

At the age of seven years, Mr. Bray accompanied his parents to Nebraska, where he lived until he was 28 years old, whereupon he returned to Iowa.

On March 8, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Angeline Dundee. To this union was born twelve children, eight daughters and four sons. Of these, ten remain with the grief-stricken mother to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father and husband. They are; Mrs. Charles Ewing of Forest Mills, Mrs. Harold Flack of Volney, Mrs. Roy Hammond of Forest Mills, Mrs. Richard McNally of Postville, Mrs. Marshall Burns of Castalia, Lawrence Bray of Postville, and Dorothy, Beulah, Lloyd and Raymond at home. Besides the wife and children he is survived by three brothers; Walter Bray of Decorah, Victor Bray of Weston, Iowa, and Charles Bray of Wichita, Kansas, also a host of friends and other relatives who join us in extending our sympathy to those bereaved.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home and at the United Bretheren church in this city, with the Rev. J. H. Hampton officiating, assisted by Rev. R. F. Galloway of Postville. Interment was made in the Smith cemetery in Post township.

The following singers took part in the services; Mrs Sherman Bollman, Miss Sarah Miller, Walter Pilgrim, Mrs. Fred Waters and R. J. Waters.

Copied exactly from the article. " at the age of 68 years, one month and two days." must refer to how long he had lived. What the intended ending to that sentence was meant to be is unknown.

See obituary posted for Mrs. John L. (Ruth Angeline Dundee)Bray 1876 - 1954.

Submitter is not related.
