Mrs. H. Casten Passes On At Her Home Here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Following a lingering illness Mrs. Henry Casten passed away at her home in this city at ten o'clock Saturday evening, October 31, 1931.

Her maiden name was Mathilda Maria Frieda Foels and she was born in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, on January 15, 1870, and was baptized in the Lutheran church of her homeland in early infancy. When she was four years of age her parents emigrated to America, settling on a farm in Clayton county, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood.

On Palm Sunday, April 06, 1884, she was received into communicant membership of St. Paul's Lutheran church of this city by rite of confirmation.

On February 08, 1888, she was united in marriage with Henry Casten, a union which under God extended over forty-three years. To this union were born three daughters, one of which, Violet, preceded her mother in death in 1910. The surviving ones, who together with the bereaved husband and father mourn deeply the loss of their beloved mother, are Mrs. Luella Geick of Rock Rapids and Melinda at home. Besides these she leaves to mourn two brothers, William and Adolph Foels, and one sister, Mrs. Geo. Oldag, all of Postville.

Until her last illness she was a regular attendant at divine services.

She was a devoted, faithful and loving wife and mother, who will be sadly missed by her loved ones. And she was a kind and sympathetic neighbor and friend, beloved by all who knew her.

At the time of her departure she was aged 61 years, nine months and 16 days.

The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city on Wednesday, afternoon, November 4th, Dr. R. B. Garten officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery.
