Graveside services for Darlene Douglass Couto were held Saturday, April 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Postville Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Catterson officiated. The family greeted friends in the fellowship hall at the Community Presbyterian Church following the commital service. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of local arrangements.

A memorial service for Mrs. Couto was held April 11, 2001, at 4:30 p.m. in the Riverfront Towers Community room at Lansing, Michigan. The Rev. Daniel Moreno of the Light of Calvary Church in Okemos, Michigan, officiated.

Darlene Douglass Couto, the daughter of Ray and Ruth Douglass, was born April 28, 1925 in Postville, Iowa. She passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001 in Lansing, Michigan. She had reached the age of 75 years, 11 months, and nine days.

She graduated from Postville High School in 1942 and later graduated from the University of Iowa. Following graduation, Darlene worked with the State Department Foreign Service. She lived in Hampton, Virginia for more than 25 years, giving much of herself to the community and working as a substance abuse counselor before retiring from working with the State of Virginia. She moved to Lansing, Michigan in 1998.

Darlene is survived by 2 sons: Edward D. (Elizabeth) Couto, Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa and C. Douglass Couto, Lt. Col. (USAF, Retired) of East Lansing, Michigan; a sister Betty Douglas of Palm Springs, California, and a friend, Bill W.
