Mary A. Goerdt, 83, of Dyersville, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where an American Legion Auxiliary rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a parish scripture service will be at 5 p.m.
Mary was born on May 9, 1928, in Dorchester, daughter of John and Minnie (Burroughs) O'Hare.
She married Delbert W. Goerdt on April 13, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dubuque; he preceded her in death in 1993. Together they lived in Dubuque for a short time, until they moved to Dyersville, where Mary became a secretary at Farmers Shipping. They owned and operated the Rendezvous Tavern for several years. She also was employed as the deputy city clerk for the city of Dyersville for more than 25 years.
Mary loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their events, games and activities. As an avid Cubs fan, she always thought "this is the year." She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family.
Surviving are her children, Daniel (Jennifer), of Crystal Lake, Ill., Patricia (Eldon) Ries, of Dyersville, Cheryl (Robert) Greenwood, of Waterloo, and Terry (Mary Jo) of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren, Donald (Carla) Snyder, Robert Snyder, Thomas and Christopher Goerdt, Jennifer (Scott) Winter, Jeremy (Amy) Ries and Megan Ries, Joseph (Torie) Greenwood, Timothy and Abigail Greenwood and Kelli, Casey and Michael Goerdt; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Roffman, of East Moline, Ill.; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Doerr and Helen Osterhaus, both of Dubuque.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Jeff and Ryan Ries; and in-laws, Merle Goerdt, Emerald (Clete) Osterhaus, Juliana and Jeanette Goerdt, Lyle Roffman and Merle Doerr.
