Hazel Rowland Cunningham died July 13, 1987. She was born December 16, 1892, in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, to parents John Cameron and Augusta Weber Rowland.
Hazel was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. She received her education at Walnut Grove country school and Monona High School. After graduating from high school she taught in several country schools including Castalia, Smith-Field, Ryal-Humphrey and Walnut Grove.
April 16, 1913 she married James Cunningham at her parents' home. They had 2 sons. The couple lived in Monona all their married life. Hazel remained in her home in Monona until entering the Postville Good Samaritan Home March 7, 1980.
She was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Preceding her in death was her husband, James, April 29, 1964; a son, Darrell, January, 1985; 2 brothers, Erie and Roy and a sister, Grace.
Surviving is a son, Eldon of Midland, TX and 2 grandsons.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 17, 1987, 11 a.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, with Rev. Dean Shelly officiating.
Pallbearers were Robert Rowland, Kermit Klinge, Emmet Gunderson, Robert Thompson, Burdette Wold and Kurt Gerdes. Honorary pallbearers were William Hazlett, John Ryan, Bill Schlein, Harvey Marting and Wilbert Wiethorn.
Interment was in Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of services.
