AANES, SCHULTZ, OLDAG, SCHEIDEL, KLEPPE, LEAVERTON

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Lyle Aanes was held Monday, June 16, 2003, at 11:00 A. M. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Galen Kuhens officiated. Special music was provided by Brenda Steffens, organist and Peggy Kittelson, soloist, with a reading by Gregg Kleppe. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Inurnment was in God's Acres Cemetery. Mary Malinda (nee Schultz) Aanes, the daughter of Arthur Henry Carl Schultz and Malinda (nee Oldag) Schultz, was born May 9, 1922, in Post Township, Allamakee County, near Postville, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union, Iowa. She had reached the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 2 days. Mary graduated from Postville High School in 1939, where she played on the girl's basketball team. She was employed at Madison, Wisconsin for a short time following graduation. On November 1, 1945, Mary was married to Lyle Aanes in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville by the Reverend Frederick R. Ludwig. To this union three children were born, David, Debra, and Robert. They farmed and raised their family on the farm located on the County Line Road near Postville. In 1980 they moved to the family farm near Clermont. Mary enjoyed life, which was apparent in her sense of humor. She liked hard work, and it was evident in her many interests. Mary spent time working in her yard and especially with her flowers. Her hands were always busy with some task. She enjoyed quilting at the church, knitting, and crocheting, and baking Norwegian foods. She frequently took bus trips as well. Mary was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA, Esther Circle, and the Town and Country and the Woodland Study Clubs. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Pearl Scheidel, and two brothers-in-law, George Leaverton and Harold Scheidel. Surviving are her husband, Lyle, 3 children, a son, David Aanes and his wife, Julie, of Clermont, a daughter, Debra and her husband, Dr. Gary Kleppe, D.V.M., of Monroe, WI, and a son, Robert Aanes and his wife, Janet, of Cedar Falls, IA; 7 grandchildren, Jeff and Jackie Aanes, Jenny and Chris Kleppe, and Nicole (Jeff) Duin, Travis and Jodi Aanes; 2 great grandchildren, Chance and Logan Duin; and a sister, Anna Mae Leaverton of San Antonio, TX.
