Carol J. Stock, age 60, of Waukon, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Monday, June 2 at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon with Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements. Carol Jean Thompson was born March 26, 1943, in Forest City, Iowa, the eldest child of Walter A. and Bernice (Reynolds) Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, attended rural elementary schools, and graduated from Britt High School in 1961. In 1961, she married Robert Madison. They were later divorced. Carol attended NEICC in Calmar and graduated from their clerical program in 1974. On August 7, 1976, she married Roger W. Stock at the Zalmona Presbyterian Church. They farmed on Roger's parents' farm in Ludlow Township until retiring in 1995, although they continued to live on the farm. Carol worked as a travel agent in Decorah. From May of 1974 until December of 1989, she worked for Peter Peterson at Minowa Travel. From January 1990 until September 2000, she worked for Peg Pinckney at Sundance Travel. She enjoyed working with her clients and helping them find the best deal. Carol attended Zalmona Presbyterian Church. She and Roger were members of the Allamakee Antique Auto Club and enjoyed driving their convertible in various parades as well as for long rides throughout the local area. Her pastimes included sewing, making crafts, reading mystery novels, and boating on the Mississippi River. She liked helping on the farm and learning all about the calves. She particularly liked spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her beloved husband, Roger of Waukon; a son, Keith Madison and his special friend, Laura Graham, and her children Philip and Chelsie, of Treschtown, Mont.; four sisters, Linda Davis and Donna (Elgie) Maiden, both of Warsaw, Mo., Rita (George) Rogers of Edwards, Mo., and Becky (Terry) McManus of Leavenworth, Kansas; a brother, Walter Thompson of Kansas City, Mo.; 18 nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother- and father-in-law, a niece, and a nephew. Casketbearers were Gerald Brink, John Opfer, Randy Kruger, Kenny Beardmore, Brad Winkie, and Leo Folsom.
