Peter Martell, aged 14, and the second son of Deo Martell, was accidentally drowned last Wednesday. [illegible] brother was eating. A few minutes later persons going by heard his cries for help while he was in the water but they could not get to his relief. Several parties from town aided in dragging for the remains and they were found between 4 and 5 o’clock about 100 feet from where he fell into the water. It is thought that he must have stepped on a clam shell and as he quickly got off lost his balance and fell into the water, as there were no evidences of his having been pulled in by the hooks as is often the case when one throws a bar in carelessly.
Dr. Bradley held an inquest Thursday morning. The funeral occurred at Wexford Friday. This is the first serious accident that has happened here through clamming but the work is dangerous, especially to young boys and they cannot be too careful.
