Ralph Hilmer

Ralph Arthur Hilmer went to be with the Lord September 13, 2011 at the age of 79, just short of his 80th birthday. Iowa services for Ralph will be held at Marion First Baptist Church Saturday, October 22 at 11 a.m.
He was born to Arthur and Edna Hesse Hilmer in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County. After moving to Marion as a youth, Ralph graduated from Marion High School. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he became a building contractor in Iowa.
In 1970, Ralph moved his family to Arizona, where he was the Lake Havasu City Building Inspector. He later moved to Phoenix, where he was with the Registrar of Contractors before returning to being a building contractor.
Ralph had returned to the Waukon area to continue his family’s Century Farm Heritage. He attended First Baptist Church, and enjoyed farm community activities, had great fun with his Model-A cars, enjoyed listening to people, and loved helping whoever needed a hand. He loved the Lord, he loved his family, and he believed that every person could do something to make a difference.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Carole. Ralph and Carole were married in 1954 and celebrated their 57th anniversary this past July. He also left behind his three children, April (Michael) Cramer, Aaron Hilmer and Alison (Patrick) Wiers; three grandchildren, Leroy (Janet) Curtis, David (Angie) Hilmer and Ellacia Maxey; and five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Mary, Kira, Raven and Justin. Ralph is also survived by his sister, Adeline Rompot; and his brothers, Walter and Marvin.
