ACCIDENT - MAN KILLED - Mr. Alexander McCarty, one of the oldest and best citizens of Allamakee County, met with an accident on Thursday morning last, which resulted in death almost instantly. The circumstances as related to us, are about as follows: Mr. McCarty was engaged in the milling business, at Village Creek, in this county, in company with J.M.Rose, Esq. On Thursday morning, about four o'clock, he went to the mill and put the machinery in motion. At five o'clock someone heard a scream, and proceeding to the mill, found that Mr. McCarty's clothing had been caught by one of the upright shafts, making about seventy-five revolutions per minute. It is supposed he was killed almost instantly, as he was found whirling around at this fearful rate and life extinct. He was buried on Friday by the Msonic Order, being a worthy member of that organization. He leaves a wife and a large family to mourn his sudden demise.
