Contributor: Connie Ellis (Bray Family Researcher)Funeral services for Hazel Joann Heeren, age 72, of Lansing, Iowa will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lansing, Iowa with Rev. R. Simon Hanson officiating. Thornburg-DeVries Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family with the arrangements. interment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa.
Hazel Joann, daughter of Julius Phillip and Hazel Edith (Bray) Heim, was born November 15, 1939 in Taylor Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. She received her education in the Lansing and Waukon schools. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. On August 12, 1976, Joann was united in marriage to Kenneth Heeren in Decorah, Iowa. She worked as a CNA for twenty years and owned and operated the Learning Tree Day Care in Lansing. She also owned and operated the H&R Block Tax office in Waukon, Iowa for thirteen years. She has been a resident of Lansing, Iowa since 1955. Joann enjoyed reading, baking, making stocking caps, and spending time with her family.
Hazel Joann Heeren died Sunday November 20, 201l at her residence in Lansing, Iowa. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, her parents, a brother Donald Heim and two sisters, Leila Heim who died as a child and Verna Sickles.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Lansing, Iowa, 2 daughters, Jody Ehlers of Waukon, Iowa and Lisa (Casey Hubbard) Barten of Rockton, Illinois, 1 son Randy (Charlene) Sickles of Lansing, Iowa; 4 step-children, Kathleen (Ralph Sr.) Hammel of Dorchester, Iowa, Gerald Heeren of Phoenix, Arizona, Douglas (Mary) Heeren of Winfield, Texas, and Maralee (Larry) Krau of Largo, Florida; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Carol (Floyd) Sickles of Lansing, Iowa.
