Francis "Butch" Kessel
Francis “Butch” Kessel, 73, of Waukon died Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the Good Samaritan Care Center in West Union. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 2 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Waukon. Visitation and lunch will follow the service at Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank Community Room in Waukon from 3-7 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Loraine; a son, Thomas Michael Kessel; his grandchildren, Justin Michael Kessel, Trista Ellen Snitker, Parker Dillon Kessel, Perry Thomas Kessel, and Benjamin Allan Dehli; and his great-grandchildren, Colton Ryan Snitker and Jordan Adam Snitker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Anna Marie Kessel Dehli; a great-grandson, Ezekiel Allan Dehli; a brother; and a sister.
Francis was born June 30, 1938 in Waukon, the son of Harry and Anna Jensan Kessel. He married Loraine Nelsen November 5, 1955 in Waukon. Francis was a dedicated, baptized Jehovah’s Witness of Waukon Congregation for 25 years as of August 2010. He was, at times, a ministerial Stewart, a secretary and various help to the congregation and with many hours spent in field service.
Francis worked for Dale Robey Construction for 14 years and 30 years for the City of Waukon, retiring in 2000. Francis and his wife, Loraine, enjoyed camping, boating, dancing and Blue Grass Festivals. He enjoyed doing all kinds of activities with his family, and all grandchildren. Francis lived years with diabetes, and congestive heart and kidney failure. The following was noted in his medical chart, it must have been his God and Blue Grass music that sustained him. We know it was his God.
