Gene Schulte

Gene L. “Green” Schulte, 63, of Waukon died Monday, September 19, 2011 at his home in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Hanover Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 21 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 4 p.m. scripture service.
Eugene Leo Schulte was born in La Crosse, WI July 13, 1948, the son of Bernard Henry and Virginia (Fitzgerald) Schulte. Gene attended country school in rural Waukon, graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1967 and attended NICC in Calmer. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1970. July 31, 1971 he married Mary Ward at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon.
He worked for the local John Deere dealership as a mechanic for several years. Following that, he partnered with James Hager at J&G repair in Waukon for 18 years, then owned and operated Gene’s repair for nine years. Gene was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and time on the Schulte family farm.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Waukon; his children, Tina Schulte of Davenport, Kyle of Waukon, and Jared (Kayleen) of Denver; a grandson, Carter; three sisters, Janet (Tom) Batson of Eldridge, Joyce (Mike) Otting of Davenport, and Joan (Dave) Zrostlik of Garner; four brothers, Steve (Mary) of Davenport, Dick of Dorchester, Tim (Carol) of Center Point, and Keith (Patrice) of Waukon; many nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Rita Ward of Waukon. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Bernard; and his father-in-law, Lawrence Ward.
Honorary casketbearers are Friends of a Friend. Casketbearers are Steve, Dick, Tim and Keith Schulte, Larry Magner and Tom Baxter.
