John Moetsch, a longtime resident of this community, passed away at Postville hospital last Friday following illness of several months duration. He was 77 years, 11 months and 16 days old. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's church with the Rev. F.R. Ludwig officiating and interment was made in Postville cemetery.

John George Moetsch was born in Weissenstadt, Bavaria, Germany, December 16, 1860, and as a young man came to the United States, locating immediately in Postville. He was engaged as a wagon maker for a number of years before moving to the farm on Henderson Prairie where he lived until 1909, when the family retired to Postville.

On April 24, 1889, he was married to Miss Louisa Hammond who passed away three years ago. They had one daughter, Evaline, later the wife of Otto Fischer, who passed away in 1916 leaving her husband with two sons and a daughter.

Mr. Moetsch was affiliated with Brotherly Love Lodge, No. 204, A.F. & A.M.of this city, the Turnverein of which he was president for a time and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church.

He is survived by his son-in-law, Otto Fischer; three grandchildren, Clarence Fischer of Guttenberg, Mrs. Ora Anderson, Postville, Harold Fischer, Elgin; one great grandchild; a niece, Mrs. Wm. Brockmeyer, Postville; two brothers and one sister living in Germany, and several relatives in New Hampton.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral Sunday included: Mr. and Mrs. George Benz, George Moetsch, Mr. and Mrs. Oria Eggleston, Mrs. Olie Knutson, Mrs. Frank Reich and Ewald, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Moetsch, Mr. and Mrs. Secil Secrist, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Moetsch and John Moetsch, all of New Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fischer and Grant of Clayton, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Ruegnitz and family of Guttenberg.
