Funeral services for Adeline "Addie" W. Kerndt, age 93, of Waukon, Iowa were held Friday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon with the Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial followed in the Lansing Ridge Cemetery in rural Lansing, Iowa. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Casket bearers were her grandchildren, Rick Winke, Dorothy Winke, Michell Scroggs, Paula Wickham, Kyle Kerndt, Josh Litterer, Amy Litterer, and Jen Litterer.

Adeline "Addie" Wilhelmina, daughter of Matthew and Mary (Christoph) Bechtel, was born March 23, 1908 in Lansing, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Little German Presbyterian Church in Lansing and graduated from Lansing High School in 1927 after taking the Normal Training Course. She taught rural school in Allamakee County for nine years. On June 16, 1937, Addie married Clarence Arthur Kerndt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed together in the Round Prairie area until moving to Waukon in 1970. Adeline worked at the Waukon Co-op Locker until the mid 1980's. Since 1993, she has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center. Addie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Ladies Circle. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star in Lansing, Iowa. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, and gardening. She also loved to watch birds and studied them enough to identify them by their calls. She looked forward to baking cookies and candy during the holiday season each year. Addie was honored by the Iowa Historical Society for a book she wrote on her family's history. She also wrote another book on military service.

Adeline Wilhelmina Kerndt died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence, her son David Kerndt, three sisters, Esther Boos, Lydia Frankhauser, and Dorothy Harvey and eight brothers, William Bechtel, Carl Bechtel, Sam Bechtel, Tade Bechtel, Ben Bechtel, Herman Bechtel, George Bechtel, and Matt Bechtel, Jr.

Adeline is survived by her two daughters, Mary Kay (Richard) Winke of Waukon, Iowa and Becky (Larry) Litterer of Dougherty, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Bieber of Portland, Oregon
