Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Carl Eugene "Gene" Johnson, age 101, were held Monday, April 21, at 11 a.m. at the French and Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa. Rev. Jim Dale officiated. Burial was in the Manchester Cemetery.
Carl Eugene "Gene" Johnson, son of Charles and Hulda (Liljequist) Johnson, was born October 25, 1895 in Bailey Town, Indiana, now known as Bailey Harbor. Gene married Flossie Parrott on February 27, 1917 in Dubuque, Iowa. They lived in the Manchester, Iowa area in the early 1930's before moving to Allamakee County where he farmed in the Lansing, Iowa area until the mid 1960's. Flossie died in 1968. After a fall in the early 1980's, Gene moved to Decorah with his son Emmett and grandson Charles where he lived until 1989. He moved to the Oneota Riverview Care Facility and in April became a resident of Green Lea Manor.
Carl Eugene Johnson died Wednesday, April 16, 1997 at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his four sons, Charles Johnson, John Johnson, Louis Johnson, and Emmett Johnson; two brothers, Emil Johnson and Frank Johnson, one sister, Ebba Wackelin, and one step-great-great grandson.
Carl is survived by a sister, Irene Nelson of Chesterton, Indiana; 2 grandsons, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and many step-great-great grandchildren.
