Kathleen Snitker

Kathleen Snitker, 83, of Waukon, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17 at 11 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon, with Pastor Keith Selberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Kathleen Snitker was born March 8, 1928 at home on the Tom Ellingson farm in Winneshiek County to Harris and Henrietta (Hendrickson) Ellingson. In 1930, her family moved to Pleasant Township. Kathleen went to school at Pleasant No. 7 and attended the Canoe Ridge Lutheran church. When her brothers went off to war, she stayed home to help on the family farm until her marriage to Calvin, October 27, 1946, Canoe Ridge Church. After their marriage, Kathleen joined the congregation of Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church – now Salem United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Women’s Fellowship and the Mary Circle.
Kathleen worked with Calvin building their Holstein milking herd, along with market cattle and hogs. Kathleen enjoyed feeding and working with the calves and her horses. She also enjoyed embroidery, bowling, and especially her annual lutefisk meal with her mother and sisters. In 1987 Calvin designed and had a new home built on the farm. Late 1987, Kathleen and Calvin moved into this home and enjoyed semi-retirement there. Kathleen moved into Northgate Care Center in December 2007.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Calvin Snitker of Waukon; four children, Suzanne (Dan) Robinson of Ankeny, Karen Snitker of Prairie du Chien, WI, Jackie (Steve) Rubendall of Waukon and Kirk (Lisa Schaller) of Waukon; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Tilman (Lorena) Ellingson of Decorah; two sisters, Cheryl Bergan of Decorah and Sandra Pierce of Sacramento, CA; three brothers-in-law, Bernard (Jean) Snitker of Waukon, Nathan (Betty) Snitker of Viola, IL, Edward Shelby of Davis Station, SC; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellingson of Decorah; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Orville and Mervin Ellingson; two sisters, Esther Grotegut and Adelaide Shelby; father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Elsie (Flage) Snitker; three brothers-in-law: Willard Grotegut, Darrell Pierce, and Duane Bergan.

Honorary casketbears are the Staff members of Northgate Care Center. Casketbearers are Andy Moser, Aaron Robinson, Daniel Robinson, Blake Rubendall, Steve Rubendall and Jesse Saathoff.
Memorials may be designated in her name to Northgate Care Center.
