Funeral services for Betty Jean Piggott, age 92, of Waukon, Iowa were held on Monday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic church in Waukon with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family with arrangements. Honorary casketbearers were Wade Henning, Cathryn Henning, Beth Knudsvig, Arlyn Nichols, Benji Nichols, Stacia Sonderman, Devon Wagner, Coreen Troendle. Active Casketbearers were Tanner Henning, Dan Knudsvig, Rick Wagner, James Piggott, Justin Piggott, and Mike Sonderman.

Betty Jean, daughter of William James and Rosie E. (Olson) Thomson, was born August 5, 1919 in Waukon, Iowa. She attended rural Allamakee County Schools and graduated from Waukon High School in 1937. On March 9, 1943, she married James Curtis Piggott at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed in Ludlow Township for many years, operating a dairy herd and raising beef cows, chickens, hogs, and grain. Betty also worked at the Allamakee County ASCS office in Waukon. She was a dietary Aid and worked in the Home Health Care Department at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She was a member of the Ludlow Township Homemakers and the Allamakee County Farm Bureau. Betty enjoyed playing cards in her card club, playing the organ, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.

Betty Jean Piggott died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Curtis who died July 2, 2009, 5 sisters, Mildred Jordon, Gladys Wolfe, Eileen Howard, Evelyn Jones, and Charlotte Deacon.

Betty is survived by her two children, Peggy (Ron) Henning of Decorah, Iowa and Greg (Rosella) Piggott of Waukon, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, Devon (Rick) Wagner, James Piggott, Justin Piggott, Stacia (Mike) Sonderman, Beth (Dan) Knudsvig, Wade (Cathryn Meyer) Henning and Aryn (Benji) Nichols and 9 great-grandchildren, Tanner Henning, Danielle Wagner, Henry Knudsvig, Wyatt Knudsvig, Edith Knudsvig, Thomas Sonderman, Emma Sonderman, Anna Sonderman, and Aurora Henning; a brother, Lester "Bill" Thomson of Waukon, Iowa.
