Victor Casten

Services were conducted from St. Paul Lutheran church Thursday, December 2 for Victor Casten who died Monday, November 29, 1971, at his home near Postville. The Rev. Norman Ullastad officiated.

Victor John Casten, son of John Casten, Sr. and his wife Magdelene Knodt Casten, was born in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, August 2, 1889.

He was baptized in 1890 and confirmed in 1903 in St. Paul Lutheran church, Postville, where he remained a life long member.

On September 5, 1923, he was united in marriage to Florence Jensen of St. Olaf. To this union two children were born. The couple farmed in Clayton county until 1945, when they moved to Postville, where he was a trucker for 20 years.

Mr. Casten was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl and John. He is survived by his wife Florence; one daughter Mrs. John (LaVon) Barnes, Shreveport, Louisiana; one son, Karl of Postville; two grandchildren, John Barnes, Jr. of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dale Barnes of Shreveport, Louisiana; three brothers, Walter, Lorenz and Leonard, and one sister Mrs. Theresa Baltz, Postville.

Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
