Memorial services for Donald M. Gruber, age 76, of Ames, Iowa were held Sunday, October 8 at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames, Iowa. A private family service was held at Stevens Memorial Chapel under the direction of Rev. Cindy McCalmont. His body was donated to the University of Iowa in Iowa City for research.

Donald M. Gruber, son of Leslie Easton and Julia Salome (Hacklander) Gruber, was born October 15, 1923 in Lansing, Iowa. He married Lois R. Nelson in 1951. He was a resident of Ames for 25 years. He also lived in Albia, Iowa, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa and spent two pastoral exchanges in England. Donald Gruber was a pastor for United Methodist Church in Ames, and an Evangelical United Brethren pastor. He retired in 1986. He was a member of the Iowa Peace Network, Iowa Peace and Justice Center, Center for Creative Justice, National Peace Intitute, Toastmaster Club, Pastors for Peace and the Holy Club. He was also a probation counselor.

Donald M. Gruber died October 6, 2000 at the Israel Family Hospice House, Ames, Iowa, due to prostate cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Harlan Gruber and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; 1 son, Mark Gruber of Des Moines, Iowa and 4 daughters, Nancy White of Atlantic, Iowa, Kathy Wilson of Fairfax, Iowa, Lynn Kaizer of Ames, Iowa, and Mary Gruber of St. Paul, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren and 1 brother, James Gruber of Lansing, Iowa.
