Theodore Schulte

Theodore Bernard Schulte, long-time resident of the Dorchester area, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Caledonia Care and Rehab, Caledonia, MN at age of 93. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 16 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dorchester. Theodore's nephew, Rev. Donald Bakewell, officiated and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dorchester.
Theodore was born on the Schulte home farm in Waterloo Township August 22, 1917 to Bernard and Mary (Roerkohl) Schulte. He married Leonedes Welscher June 23, 1942 and together they farmed and raised seven children.
Along with his farming, he did custom farm work. Owning one of the first hay balers in the area, he started custom baling and then shelling corn and combining beans and oats. He also sold fertilizer and trucked machinery as well as crown vetch. He kept a diary for more than 70 years.
Paying attention to his farm equipment, he made improvements to his cornpicker and also developed and sold a guide to increase efficiency of silo unloaders. Both inventions were patented. He served on the Waterloo Township Board for nearly 45 years, which included directorships on the fire departments of Eitzen and Spring Grove, MN.
Theodore will be remembered by his family as a hard worker, for his great interest in farming and for his many sayings that were intended to teach, which became known as “Schulte-isms.”
He is survived by his daughters, Jean (Ellert) Mindrum and Rose (Paul) Weichert, both of Caledonia, MN, Marion (Kenneth) Gordon of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Virginia Schulte of LaCrosse, WI; his sons, Chuck (Sharon) Schulte of Caledonia, MN, and Leo Schulte and Keith (Jenette) Schulte of Dorchester; his sisters, Luella Bakewell of Waukon, and Leona Doviak and Marcella Alberti, both of Milwaukee, WI; as well as 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leonedes, of 53 years; his parents; his son-in-law, James Scanlan; his grandson, Patrick Scanlan; and his sisters, Veronica Bakewell, Mary Hammell and Lucille Thompson.
